Woodworking and Fabrication Shop Space in Philadelphia

A real shop, in a building made for making things. Every first-floor studio at D Street Studios is listed below: 20 ground-floor rooms from about 429 to 2,600 square feet in two 1888 mill buildings, with concrete floors, 17 to 20 foot ceilings, two truck loading docks and roll-up gate access on select units.

Why makers pick a mill

Sheet goods, slabs, kilns and CNC beds do not fit through office doors. Corridors here were built for mill work, so they are wide enough for 4x8 sheets and heavy machinery. Ground-floor units are set up for heavy equipment, two truck loading docks serve the complex, and several first-floor studios have a roll-up gate so you can back a van straight into your shop.

Ceilings of 17 to 20 feet mean dust collection and finished pieces can go up instead of out. Original plank and concrete floors take weight. Electrical systems have been updated across the complex, and a new insulated roof keeps the shop warmer through winter.

Who is already here

The 130+ tenants include fabricators, furniture makers, small manufacturers and fine artists. Studios are private and individually locked with 24/7 access, so you work when the job needs it. Leases are annual with a credit check and renters insurance. Bring your equipment list and power needs to the tour and we will match you with a unit that can handle them.

Studios that suit this use

Every first-floor studio currently open, at both campuses, in unit order. Rents are monthly on an annual lease. Ask on the tour which units have roll-up gate access.

Questions we get asked

Can I run woodworking machinery here?

Yes, in ground-floor studios set up for heavy equipment. Tell us what you are running on the tour form so we can show you units with the right floor, access and power.

How do I get materials in?

Two truck loading docks serve the complex, freight-width corridors run through both buildings and select first-floor studios have roll-up gate access directly into the unit.

Is there enough power for a shop?

Electrical has been updated across the complex. Specific capacity varies by unit, so bring your equipment list and we will confirm before you sign.

Can I spray finishes?

Ask on the tour. Ceiling height and ventilation vary by studio, and some uses need their own equipment and approvals.

What does shop space cost?

First-floor studios currently open run from $700 to $2,600 a month, for roughly 429 to 2,600 square feet.

See it in person

Ceiling height and daylight do not photograph well. A 30 minute walk-through is the fastest way to know whether a studio works for you. Tours run at both campuses: 3437 D Street and 500 E Tioga Street, Philadelphia, PA 19134.
